Bank of England Representatives Visit SAM Mouldings to Discuss Economic Conditions
SAM Mouldings, the UK’s leading manufacturers of MDF mouldings, welcomed Megan Greene, External Member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) at the Bank of England, alongside Gillian Anderson, Deputy Agent for Northern Ireland, to its headquarters in Antrim on Friday 6th December.
Megan Greene, appointed to the MPC in July 2023, is a globally respected economist and key decision maker on the Monetary Policy Committee. Greene plays a critical role in shaping the Bank of England’s monetary policy, including interest rates and inflation strategies that impact the UK economy. With a distinguished career spanning global economic analysis, public speaking, and advisory roles, Greene brings unparalleled expertise in interpreting and addressing economic challenges. Her visit to SAM underscored the importance of understanding the perspectives and contributions of local businesses in shaping national economic strategies.
The delegation was hosted by members of SAM’s leadership team, including CEO Sam McCrea MBE, Joint Managing Director Cat McCrea, and Finance Director Sarah Shaw. The visit provided an opportunity for open dialogue on current economic conditions and a closer look at SAM’s operations and contributions to both the local and UK economies. Discussions covered market trends, workforce development, the company’s strategic investments to strengthen its position as a market leader, and the importance of robust economic strategies for businesses and communities alike.
Speaking on the visit, Sam McCrea MBE, CEO of SAM Mouldings, said:
“It was an honour to host Megan Greene, a highly esteemed member of the Monetary Policy Committee, alongside Gillian Anderson from the Bank of England. Sharing SAM’s journey of growth and investment with such influential figures in economic policy was a unique opportunity. As a Northern Ireland business, we’re proud of the role we play in driving the local economy, and this visit allowed us to highlight both the opportunities and challenges facing businesses like ours.”
SAM’s significant growth has firmly positioned it among Northern Ireland’s most successful companies, climbing to 30th place in the Belfast Telegraph NI Top 100 Companies list this year. The company’s achievements were underpinned by a £7 million investment program that included a 45,000 square foot extension to its Antrim factory, the development of a new primed finish MDF mouldings product, and the opening of a distribution centre in Warwick.
With over 200 employees in the UK, SAM continues to create jobs and invest in its people and the local community. As SAM looks to the future, its vision remains focused on continuous growth and expansion, with plans to further strengthen its export presence and build on its position as a market leader.
