After a lifetime in their family home, the customer was looking for a downsized property to suit their current lifestyle. Their now 3-bedroom bungalow ticked all the boxes – a smaller home that still offered comfortable living, and just a short walk from the scenic seafront town of Holywood. What followed was a full renovation to make the space truly their own.
Project Overview
- Location: Holywood, Northern Ireland
- Project type: Full renovation
- Products used: SAM5219 Chamfer Stepped Skirting and architrave, SK01C Chamfered Plinth Block, AR01C Chamfered Architrave Block.
- Goal: To fully renovate the home to create a modern, welcoming space with detail and character.
Choosing the Right Skirting and Architrave
The customer wanted a renovation that would stand the test of time, adding high quality elements that were durable and versatile. When researching different styles of skirting and architrave, they discovered SAM’s range of stepped profiles, particularly SAM5219 Chamfer Stepped.
“We instantly loved the design; it didn’t look like anything we had really seen before. In fact, we ended up commissioning some cornice from a different supplier to match the stepped theme of SAM products, along with door handles to match.”
Opting for the Chamfered Stepped profile would add elegance and character to the space, while also giving it a contemporary feel. To enhance the overall look further, the customer chose skirting and architrave blocks, a detail that would give the home a unique, elevated feel. “The blocks from SAM look incredible with the skirting and architrave,” the customer said, “and even more so when it was all painted and complete.”
The Long-Term Benefits of using MDF Mouldings
SAM primed MDF mouldings provided the perfect solution for this project. With a smooth surface for easy painting, and a moisture resistant core, the same profile could be used across living spaces, kitchen and bathrooms without the risk of warping or swelling.
Unlike timber alternatives, each length offered consistent quality free from defects and knots, meaning less wastage for the overall project. With the versatile designs, the customer was able to easily handle and cut the architrave lengths to create bespoke style picture frame panelling for the hallway, adding their own personal stamp to the space.
