What finishes are offered for SAM products?

What are our product grades?
Our boards come as Moisture Resistant, Standard Grade, Medite Tricoya Extreme and Euroclass B and C.
- Moisture Resistant MDF – MR:
Moisture resistant boards should be used wherever the product is likely to come into contact with moisture or high humidity eg: new plasterwork, bathrooms, kitchens etc. These are rated Durability Class D3 and CARB 2 compliant – very low formaldehyde emissions. - Standard Grade MDF – ST:
Standard Grade MDF is produced using superior wood refining technology and specially designed resins. Excellent face properties make it suitable for the thinnest laminates and surface coatings. - Medite Tricoya Extreme – MTE:
MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME is an engineered fibreboard panel manufactured by MEDITE. This product is manufactured using regular MDF manufacturing press technology, but by using wood chips that have been modified using a proprietary technology called acetylation, it results in the panel having exceptional dimensional stability, thickness swell characteristics, moisture resistance and longevity compared to all species of solid timber. - Fire Retardant MDF to Euro Class B:
FR (Flame Retardant) Euro Class B is an MDF panel developed specifically for use in situations where a Euro Class B flame retardant board is required under building regulations. - Fire Retardant MDF to Euro Class C:
FR (Flame Retardant) Euro Class C is an MDF panel developed specifically for use in situations where a Euro Class C flame retardant board is required under building regulations.
Can you manufacture bespoke profiles?
If a customer requires a bespoke profile, we would ask for a sketch or specification sheet to be sent to us. We would then ask our Technical Department to design a CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawing to be designed to match your requirements. Once all drawings have been confirmed by the customer, this CAD drawing is then ready to proceed to our Scheduling Department to be manufactured.

ENVIRONMENT
Are your products environmentally friendly?
SAM leads the way with our commitment to how we manage our environmental impact on society. All waste MDF is extracted from the factory using cyclo filters and is sorted in silos. This waste is then burned in our combined heat and power plant to provide heat for the factory, offices and paint drying process as well as generating 40% of our electricity requirements. The SAM plant is the first of its kind anywhere in the world and has greatly reduced landfill and pollution effects and has therefore led to SAM being awarded the Green Apple Environmental Award in 2003. We have recently installed solar photovoltaic panels to the roofs of our factory and offices and the energy generated will be used within the factory, which in turn will lower our carbon emissions.
Are your products FSC Certified?
SAM products are FSC Certified demonstrating our commitment to source our raw material from environmentally aware suppliers who have pledged to preserve the world’s forests through good forestry practice. For more information, please contact our internal sales team.
What does FSC Mean?
FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council. This is an organisation that started in the 1990s to improve how the world’s forests are managed. FSC standards have been developed to protect the forests’ biodiversity and ecological processes.
I am worried about formaldehyde levels. Can you give me more information on formaldehyde in SAM products?
The current formaldehyde emission levels from MDF are far below any limits set by governing bodies, with the emission rate from MDF board being less than 0.3ppm.
Research has shown more formaldehyde to be present in tomatoes, milk and kippers, whilst at the burning end of a cigarette formaldehyde levels can be up to 40ppm, that is 140 times more than with an MDF board.
Our suppliers of MDF carry out production under controlled conditions, which comply with the most stringent requirements for formaldehyde content stated in the European Standard EN 622. Over the last few years, they have invested millions of pounds to reduce formaldehyde levels to these present very low levels.
