SAM’s Community Impact: Celebrating a Year of Giving
In 2023, SAM partnered with Marie Curie to support their work in providing care and support to those with terminal illnesses and their families. Throughout the year, the SAM team engaged in many activities. This not only strengthened our team spirit, but also made a significant impact in the lives of many. Here’s a look back at the events from throughout the year, and SAM’s community impact.
The Power of Yellow: Daffodil Campaign and Yellow Day
Kicking off our fundraising journey, SAM embraced the spirit of Yellow Day, as part of the Daffodil Campaign. On this day we transformed our workplace into a sea of yellow with our employees wearing anything and everything yellow. Moreover, this was a symbol of hope and solidarity with those facing terminal illnesses.
Steps for a Cause: Step Challenge and Sports Day
Aligned with our Work Well, Live Well initiative, SAM stepped up towards making a difference with a month-long Step Challenge. This was aimed at contributing to Marie Curie’s ambitious goal of reaching 5 million steps collectively. This initiative saw our employees count every step as a stride towards supporting those in need. The dedication displayed helped us contribute meaningfully to this milestone. Therefore, proving that every step taken was a step closer to hope and support for those with terminal illnesses.
Following the success of the Step Challenge, June brought the energy and excitement of Sports Day. Organised with a spirit of healthy competition and teamwork, this event helped to contribute a few more pounds to towards the total raised. Employees from all departments came together for a day filled with sports and activities. The day finished off with a lovely BBQ (in the rain, although many of us did enjoy the sheltered space in the warehouse).
A Walk to Remember: Twilight Walk
One of the highlights of our charitable calendar was the Twilight Walk. As dusk settled, some of the SAM family came together for a reflective journey. Walking 7km alongside the families and carers of those battling terminal illnesses. The team enjoyed the build up to the walk with the group warmup and the candlelight tribute at the end. This event provided a moment of community and support, reflecting our commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
Seasonal Celebrations: Halloween Hamper and Christmas Raffle
Embracing the festive spirit, SAM hosted a Halloween and Christmas Raffle, adding a touch of joy and excitement to our fundraising efforts. These seasonal activities organised by SAM brought out the generosity of our team. With all proceeds going directly to support Marie Curie’s mission.
Sweet Surprises: “Guess How Many Sweeties Are in the Jar”
Injecting a dash of joy into our fundraising activities, the “Guess How Many Sweeties Are in the Jar” contest quickly became a favourite among our employees. Congratulations to Daniel from our Antrim night shift and Kyle from team Donington, who emerged victorious, winning the coveted sweetie jars with their very close guesses!
A Remarkable Achievement: £10,000 Raised
Through the collective effort of our dedicated employees and the unwavering support of our community, SAM is proud to announce that we have raised a remarkable £10,000 for Marie Curie in 2023. This is a testament to our shared commitment to making a difference.
Reflecting on Our Journey
“Getting involved in fundraising activities for Marie Curie has been a fantastic opportunity for SAM and its employees to make a meaningful difference. Throughout the year we had the opportunity to collaborate as a team by taking part in numerous fundraising activities. Each of which was to support Marie Curie’s cause of providing care and support to those with terminal illness and their families. This has been an excellent opportunity for team building and collaboration among our employees. Alongside, making a positive impact in the community.”
