Title: Case Study: A Classic Range Designed for Timeless Interiors
Client Name: Louelle Designs
Location: Draperstown, Mid Ulster
Project Type: Renovation
Products Used: Skirting (SAM5650), Architrave (SAM5651), House Sticky (SAM115), Tongue and Groove Wall Panelling (SAM3012), Window Board (SAM53), Dado Rail (SAM37 & SAM85)
Interior Designer Louise McKenna of Louelle Designs collaborated with SAM to develop a classic moulding solution as part of the full renovation and extension of a 1960s residential property.
The project involved the complete transformation of a circa 5,500 sq. ft. home over 16 months, with on-site project management carried out full-time throughout the build. The design brief focused on delivering a traditional aesthetic that would feel established, balanced and enduring from the outset.
Identifying a Gap in the Market
During the specification stage, Louise identified a lack of truly classic moulding profiles suitable for traditional and heritage-style interiors, particularly products that could be applied consistently across varying ceiling heights without compromising proportion.
Working in collaboration with SAM, this insight led to the development of the Classic Range, a bespoke collection comprising SAM5650 skirting and SAM5651 architrave.
The result is a refined, heritage-style profile that suits both traditional renovations and character-led new builds, offering designers and specifiers a reliable, timeless option.
Product Specification & Design Considerations
The Classic Range has been designed with both aesthetic longevity and practical application in mind:
- Manufactured from moisture-resistant MDF
- Supplied primed for efficient on-site finishing
- Smooth, knot-free surface for a high-quality paint finish
- Available in multiple heights to suit differing ceiling proportions
This flexibility allowed the range to be specified throughout the property, with 8-inch (194mm) skirting at ground floor level and 6-inch (144mm) skirting on upper floors, therefore ensuring visual balance across the home.
To further enhance the architectural detailing, SAM1151 Hockey Stick moulding was incorporated to add depth to the architrave. This additional projection enabled the seamless integration of SAM3012 wall panelling, creating both a cohesive and consistent finish.
In addition, SAM53 Extra Wide Window Board was specified to deliver a strong, traditional window detail. Its generous proportions complement the Classic skirting and architrave profiles, while also providing a practical and durable solution suitable for both renovation and new-build projects.
Project Outcome
The completed project demonstrates how considered detailing and proportion-led specification can elevate a traditional interior scheme. By combining the Classic Range with complementary SAM profiles, the home achieves a cohesive and heritage-inspired finish while maintaining practical consistency throughout.
